This Asus 17.3" laptop posted is a 16:9 aspect ratio so it is the standard for widescreen media as of now. The picture of most widescreen media will fit the screen perfectly. So the resolution will be very similar. New Computer - 1600x900 = 16:9 Old Computer .... You can check my sig and see if there are any laptops that are good for you. $700 won't be much use for a gaming laptop except Source games.
